Alex Lloyd - Portfolio
 Arranger - Orchestrator - Composer - Saxophonist

Alex Lloyd is a 23 year old arranger, composer and saxophonist based in the South of the UK.

About Alex:

Alex took an interest in music after hearing his parents play the music of Motown, Philly Soul, and classic Pop and Rock music. When he was 9 or 10 years old he heard legendary Motown saxophonist Junior Walker and that started his passion for the saxophone. At the age of 11 he began to take saxophone lessons and has been playing ever since. At the age of 15, after performing with various school bands, Alex was asked to play in several professional bands which led to other jobs in the local area with an array of blues, rock and roll and soul acts. By the age of 18, Alex was touring across the UK with bands as well as playing on numerous recording sessions.

Alex specialises in tenor and baritone saxophones.

Recording experience (saxophonist/arranger)

Alex has spent time in recording studios playing on sessions for a host of artists including Detroit Soul Producer and Four Tops drummer Drew Schultz, US Soul Singer Delbert Nelson and has recorded with members of the iconic Motown studio band the Funk Brothers including 'chank' guitarist Eddie Willis - a real thrill for a soul fan!

Alex has also recorded with the legendary British jazz composer Mike Westbrook as well as a host of other British jazz/soul and pop acts.

As an arranger and composer, Alex has written and arranged for artists including several former members of the Drifters and has arranged strings on demo sessions for American soul group the Chairmen of the Board. As well as this, he has arranged and written for a host of upcoming UK artists. As a leader, Alex has released one album with his band called 'What In the World' (2017) and an E.P 'Beyond Horizons' under the name 'the Alex Lloyd Orchestra'.

Alex also studied, shadowed and worked alongside some of the major American Soul/R&B arrangers including McKinley Jackson who was musical director and arranger to both Marvin Gaye and the Temptations amongst others, and Dennis 'Doc' Williams, long-standing musical director and arranger for the O'Jays.
